family MEDIATION

During times of turmoil, it can be hard to have difficult conversations. Seasons Mediation recognizes the usefulness of having a neutral third party to help navigate through tough decisions with minimal suffering. While much of our mediation services focus around navigating divorce or separation, we offer a variety of other services that may help you navigate life’s relationship milestones.

PARENTING PLANS

Divorces involving children can be especially challenging. It can be difficult to make decisions that ensure the best interests of both parent and child. Seasons mediation assists, by helping to create a fair and reasonable agreement that protects the children, while providing a voice to all parties and minimizing emotional stress.

DIVISION OF DEBT ASSETS

Our mediators will facilitate communication to help with such issues as dividing debt accumulated during the relationship and the splitting up of assets such as the family home. By having a mediator present during this process, we help to minimize the conflict that often occurs during this part of a divorce.

PRE-COHABITATION AND
PRE-MARITAL AGREEMENTS

As mediators, we recognize that decisions regarding how to divide assets is much more difficult at the end of a relationship than at the beginning. We help mediate the conversation around pre-nuptial agreements, so that you know ahead of time what to expect in the event of divorce or death.

FAMILY BUSININESS

Many families are also business partners, which can be a great opportunity, but can complicate the development of business agreements. We mediate the development of business agreements for families to ensure your personal and professional relationships continue to run smoothly.

What are the objectives of supervised access?

Supervised access provides a safe, neutral, and child-focused environment where children can spend time with their parent or other family members. The goal is to support meaningful connections while always prioritizing the child’s safety, comfort, and well-being. This creates a setting that is professional and structured, yet also supportive and nurturing, so families can focus on building positive experiences together.

When is supervised visitation ordered?

Supervised visitation may be arranged by court order or through an agreement between parents when there are concerns about conflict, safety, or high-risk situations. In these cases, the non-custodial parent spends time with their child under the supervision of another adult.

The purpose of supervised visitation is to protect children from potentially unsafe situations while still allowing them the opportunity to build and maintain a relationship with their parent. This approach provides both structure and support, helping families focus on positive and healthy connections.

We have mediators on staff to assist in the negotiation and plan for your supervised visit, and they can also help with editing or creating your parenting plan.

Location:

Supervised visits can take place in a variety of safe, neutral, and family-friendly settings. We work with parents to choose locations that best support the child’s comfort and needs. Sessions may be held at:

  • Community spaces such as libraries, recreation centers, or restaurants

  • Parks and playgrounds in the local area

  • Swimming pools or other activity-based environments

  • A parent’s or extended family member’s home, when both parties agree that this is appropriate and comfortable

By offering a wide range of location options, supervised visitation can feel both natural and supportive while still maintaining the necessary structure and safety for everyone involved.

Intake Process

Before supervised parenting time begins, we guide families through a clear and supportive intake process:

  1. Initial Contact – We speak with each parent separately to answer questions, explain our services, and ensure the process feels comfortable and transparent.

  2. Intake Documents – Each parent completes the required forms that are sent via DocuSign, which include information about the child, family background, and any special considerations for visits.

  3. Phone or Zoom Intake Call – We schedule a private intake appointment (typically 30–60 minutes) with each parent to review the documents, confirm details, and address any concerns.

  4. Scheduling – Once both intakes are complete, we coordinate with parents to set up the first supervised visit. Our goal is to begin visits within 7 days of the completed intake process (or sooner in urgent cases).

  5. Supervised Visits – Visits are held at an agreed-upon location, with a trained supervisor present to ensure a safe, neutral, and child-centred environment.

  6. Reports (if required) – Written reports may be provided for an additional fee when requested by parents, lawyers, or the court.
